The Weekly Hap-Up

January 31, 2010

This is the first of a weekly post that I am calling my “Weekly Hap-Up” (witty I know). This is my incomplete list for the week (or in this case, the past couple of weeks) of things that went right, made me happy or were just plain fantastic, in no particular order. These may not be the most exciting events, but they are the moments that made each day special.

-Made chocolates at the fabulous Farris and Foster’s with two of the most amazing ladies you’ll ever meet. Here is a picture of the loot: dipped strawberries, pretzels, oreos and twinkies among other things.

-Made white wine spritzers and ate said chocolates with my husband. Yum!

-Went to two baby showers, one for my sister-in-law and one for our friend Erin. The expectation of bringing a baby into the world is truly one of life’s great joys.

-Celebrated my twin brothers’ birthday. Here is a ridiculous picture f them, taken by me at the exact time that my sister-in-law’s flash went off. It made for a ghostly outcome.

-Made Chipotle Chocolate Chip Cookies for the first time. Spicy and delicious. Find the recipe here.

-We watched the insanely intense movie The Hurt Locker about an Army bomb disposal squad in Iraq and the severe emotional ups and downs that go along with having to risk their lives everyday. My heart was in my throat through the whole two hours and I even woke up the next day with my chest pounding. Definitely, a Best Picture contender in my book. Film is a huge passion of mine and something that offers me endless enjoyment.

-My husband made me Cap’n Crunch French Toast {drool}. Make this as soon as you possibly can.

-My husband worked overtime every night and over the weekend. Even though it is hard not seeing him I choose to be happy about this. I am so glad that he has a job and one that he really loves.

-Checked out a bunch of new bands this week. One that had me dancing in my desk chair was Surfer Blood and their new release Astro Coast. We’ll be seeing them live next month at Back Booth. There is nothing like finding new music that you really love.

-Got free tickets to see Phantom of the Opera from a coworker and had a girl’s night out while my husband worked said overtime.

-Took a trip to Freshfield Farms and got some beautiful produce: white asparagus, red navel oranges and yellow carrots, all kinds of  wrong colors! We made fresh tomato salsa and fruit salad with pineapple, mango, kiwi, oranges and strawberries:

-We sold my husband’s car, loving referred to as “The Heat Box” and are now a one car family. We did this for a few reasons: we’ve car-pooled to work for the past two years and will continue to do so, his car wasn’t in great shape and we didn’t want to pay to get it fixed and we wanted to take any money from the sale to put toward our gazelle-intense financial plan of paying off our debts and saving for a house. And even though, as I said, he rarely uses his car, this feels like a seminal moment. This was a decision made not because it was easy, but because it is what needed to happen to benefit us in the future. Three cheers for growing up and making mature choices! RIP Heat Box.

RIP Heat Box indeed. We had a nice long relationship that I’ll never forget. The Hurt Locker totally made me want to get Modern Warfare 2 though, so if I end up with the shakes and post traumatic stress disorder, you can blame it on a combination of that game and that movie. I got eyes on a sniper at your 6 o’clock! Move soldier!

Wow that chocolate stuff looks amazing!

And man, if a movie and a game makes your heart pound and gives you the shakes, can you imagine what actually being there does!

    I’m proud of you!!

Wow, that was fast! I didn’t realize you guys had even attempted to sell the car yet. I thought you were just talking about it. (jeremy’s a little bummed the guys didn’t get to make a video of it blowing up : )

We’re excited for you guys as you work towards becoming debt free and can’t wait to celebrate with you when you accomplish your goal! It’s truly an amazing feeling.

PS – We finished our chocolate last night. So good!

Every time I see pictures/hear about chocolate making I get sad. For 2 reasons: 1-I didn’t get to spend time with you ladies, 2-I didn’t get to eat massive amounts of chocolate.

Oh and I think Biggunsdesign.com needs to be one of our friends/family 🙂

Mom- I definitely know that I never want to diffuse bombs for the army.
Jen-We hadn’t really planned on selling the car that fast but we replaced the battery and it started running so we just figured we’d get it over with. We told ourselves we’d only sell it if they (CarMax) offered a certain amount and they offered more so we did it.
Kaci-You don’t need to be sad, there will be other bonding times with sweets involved. I was going to add Biggunsdesign.com but thought he was in the process of changing his branding so I was going to wait but I’ll add it;)
